In a recent study published in the Journal of Cannabis Research, titled Reasons for cannabidiol use: a cross sectional study of CBD users, focusing on self-perceived stress, anxiety, and sleep problems, they found that people use CBD for a variety of reasons, the most popular is to manage stress or anxiety, regulate sleep and muscle recovery.

Demographics of CBD Users

Benefits of CBD - SurveySome interesting patterns emerged from this study: More males were using CBD for general health, and post workout muscle recovery, where females were using CBD for self-perceived anxiety and insomnia. Other differences of use were found to be based on age not just sex. Those aged 18 – 34 used CBD for the most varied of reasons such as general wellbeing, focus, stress, insomnia, and exercise recovery. Individuals in the age group of 35 – 54 used CBD for anxiety, insomnia, muscle recovery and chronic pain. Whereas the group over 55 years tended to use CBD for joint pain, and sleep troubles. Other interesting findings are the benefits and effects people were getting from the consistent use of CBD. The top benefits cited in the study are feeling calmer, decreased pain, feeling less depressed, improved ability to focus, muscle recovery, and better self-esteem.

Patterns of CBD Use Within Populations

The statements in this study are relevant to JPotter Health’s mission because it is our goal to help individuals achieve relief of symptoms that can affect one’s everyday life such as insomnia, anxiety, and pain. Although this is not a true scientific study with placebos and control groups, it does start to paint a picture of how CBD can improve the quality of one’s day to day life. Studies such as this one start to show patterns within general populations. In addition to giving us some insight on the demographics of CBD users, this study also looks at the dosing mechanisms as mg used per day. The most common reported was 50 mg per day taken under the tongue. Those contending with self-perceived anxiety and stress used CBD throughout the day, whereas those using products for post work out and insomnia tended to use a single daily dose.

CBD Users Report Improved General Health

These findings are not at all surprising. Women tend to feel more stress and subsequently have issues sleeping, the elderly tend to experience more joint pain, and young adults tend to go harder in the gym and need more help with self-esteem and focusing. What is interesting is the consistent help CBD provides for the wide variety of everyday ailments. The study itself makes a conclusion:

“CBD is used for a wide range of physical and mental health symptoms and improved general health and wellbeing. A majority of the sample surveyed in this study found CBD helped with symptoms”.
