CBD: Hype, Placebo Effect or Scientifically Proven Benefits?
More than ever people are wondering about CBD products. Friends are raving about it, family members swear by it but you may have tried a few types already just to feel nothing - or what's worse, maybe the product gave you an upset stomach, nausea or the jitters. Jackie Potter knows about this all to well - which is why she built a business as a CBD coach and CBD expert. Read more about the history of JPotter Health and its founder, Jackie Potter, on the About page.
Jackie Potter's Affinity for Science
Jackie had read various studies emerging in the scientific community that showed substantial promise about the health benefits of CBD and other cannabinoids when she was confronted with an opportunity to sell a particular line of CBD oil. Coming from a scientific background meant if she were to get behind the idea of CBD being more than hype and providing true health benefits - above the proven benefits of the placebo effect, she would have to do her own research.
Scientific Background: Research & Development
Jackie's previous scientific background included laboratory experience as well as research experience including writing and funding for cancer research projects, examining and understanding the function of the P53 gene and its connection to cancer growth, assisting in developing an injectable bio epoxy that strengthens into bone-like material upon hardening as well as working as a metallurgy technologist for a large manufacturer.
Difficulty Vetting Out CBD Information
While evaluating existing CBD research, investigating medical journals and analyzing anecdotal evidence, Jackie realized - if someone with experience in the scientific community was working so hard to sift through the data regarding CBD, how could the average consumer know where to start in choosing a CBD product? The more she learned about CBD, the endocannabinoid system, other cannabinoids, terpenes, full-spectrum, broad-spectrum, CBD isolate, tinctures, topicals, absorption rate.... the more questions she had. So what would this process feel like to a typical grandmother with arthritis, or a mom struggling with her child's anxiety?
